Early Christianity Minor

The minor (for non-history majors) and concentration (for history majors) in Early Christianity introduces students to the world of the early church. The program provides a historical context for the growth and global spread of Christianity and equips students with the analytical and language skills to pursue research on early Christian texts.

Requirements

Choose at least 12 credits from the following courses. At least 8 credits should be history courses.

HIS 344 - Classical Islam and the Middle East (4)
HIS 494 - Advanced Seminar: Medieval and Early Modern History (4)
Topics: Spirituality of the Desert Fathers and Mothers, Art and Spirituality in Late Antiquity, or Manuscripts and Monasteries
HIS 496 - Advanced Seminar: Ancient History (2)
Topic: Daily Life, Travel, Trade and Education in the Ancient World
BCM 245 - Martyrs, Mothers, Mystics (4)
BCM 330 - Persecution to Empire: Theology, Politics, and Culture in Early Christianity (4)
Required Language (8 credits): Two semesters of one relevant ancient language (Koine Greek, Latin, Syriac)
