Professional Writing Minor

The professional writing minor aims to supplement students’ major fields of study by equipping them to become effective on-the-job communicators. Graduates will be able to write cogently and compellingly according to recognized professional standards. This minor is available only to students outside of the English major.

ENG 371 - Selected Topics Credits: 2 or 4
ENG 380 - Tutoring: One-to-One Credits: 2 or COR 371 , topic Peer Leadership (2 credits)
ENG 425 - Internship Credits: 2-4
ENG 440 - The Literary Journal Credits: 4
COM 222 - Journalism Credits: 4
COM 325 - Public Relations and Advertising Credits: 4
COM 371 - Selected Topics Credits: 2 or 4
With advisor approval, up to 4 credits of courses in areas such as media, persuasive, or business writing; advanced business report writing; advanced topics in writing; writing in the social sciences.

Notes

Up to four credits may be taken online through an approved consortium arrangement; these credits must be approved by the advisor and the Registrar’s office.

Selected topics courses must have a clear focus on composition and rhetoric and requires advisor approval.

Internships must include a substantial writing component and require advisor approval.

At least 50% of the credits (10) must be completed with Gordon College coursework.
