Requirements

In consultation with a departmental advisor, every student will meet the core requirements. A minimum of 38 credits must be taken in the department including:

POL 104 - American National Politics Credits: 4
POL 105 - Power and Justice: Perspectives on Political Order Credits: 2
POL 106 - International Relations Credits: 4
POL 434 - State, Citizen and Civil Society Credits: 2

American Politics

Four credits from the following:

POL 213 - Political Communication: Votes, Groups and Media Credits: 4
POL 214 - American Domestic Policy Credits: 4
POL 217 - American Constitutional Law Credits: 4
POL 325 - Congress and the Presidency Credits: 4

Comparative Politics

Four credits from the following:

POL 210 - Introduction to Comparative Politics Credits: 4
POL 219 - Politics of the Developing World Credits: 4
POL 240 - Politics of Western Europe Credits: 4
POL 324 - Politics and History of Latin America Credits: 4

International Politics

Four credits from the following:

POL 246 - International Diplomacy: The Model United Nations Credits: 2
POL 310 - American Foreign Policy Credits: 4
POL 320 - Women and Politics Credits: 4
POL 348 - Theories of International Relations Credits: 4
POL 349 - Religion and International Affairs Credits: 4
POL 416 - International Political Economy Credits: 4

Political Theory

Four credits from the following:

POL 223 - Theories of Politics Credits: 4
POL 322 - American Political Thought Credits: 4
POL 329 - Modern Political Theory Credits: 4

Internship/Off-Campus Study

One of the following:

POL 425 - Internship in Government and Politics Credits: 2 to 6 (6 credits maximum for major)
Approved academic experience outside the United States
American Studies Program, or other C.C.C.U. program, or other approved off-campus academic program inside the U.S. (8 credits maximum applied to major)

Additional requirements:

In addition to the requirements listed above, students must take sufficient elective credit in political science courses to reach the minimum of 38 credits required for the major.

Students considering graduate study should take a modern language and a course in statistics for social science research.

Double Majors

Students with double majors must take a minimum of 34 credits in political science when it is declared as their second major. They may substitute an internship in their first major for the political science requirement. Double majors from philosophy are excused from the internship requirement.
