MISSION: The School of Business seeks to prepare students for lives of service and leadership in a variety of settings, from business firms to government, in the national and world economies. The School strives to graduate men and women with solid technical preparation, personal integrity, and concern for issues of justice and stewardship, well equipped for graduate studies and careers in business and economics. The School seeks to develop students’ intellectual maturity and Christian character through the careful study and application of economic and business principles within the moral framework of the Christian faith.
Majors within the School and Common Requirements
The School of Business offers six distinct majors in the business field: accounting, business analytics, business management, entrepreneurship and innovation, finance, and marketing. These majors require a common set of introductory-level courses called Foundations of Business. Students majoring in business management may elect to complete a concentration in small business management or human resource management; students may choose only one concentration.
The School of Business also offers majors in economics and sport management, and, in conjunction with the Adams School of Music and the Arts, offers a major in digital marketing and communications.
The requirements for each major or minor are listed on the respective Program page below. Double majors within the School of Business are allowed, but students must have at least four courses (16 credits) which are uniquely counted to each major. To complete a major and a minor which are both within the School of Business, at least two courses (8 credits) must be uniquely counted to the minor.
Honors
In exceptional cases majors in the School of Business may earn honors in their major field by researching and writing an honors thesis over the senior year. Under the direction of a faculty advisor, candidates will develop a thesis proposal in the spring prior to the senior year and, with school approval, register for and complete 8 credits of independent research in the senior year (ECO 471 - Honors Research I , ECO 472 - Honors Research II ). For honors the thesis must be of high quality and be defended orally in front of School faculty toward the end of spring term. The minimum GPA for honors candidates is 3.70 in the major and 3.30 overall. An honors thesis should be considered by students intending to complete a research-oriented advanced degree in any economics or business field. See School faculty for details.
