Program Description

The liberal arts informs the Graduate Leadership program at Gordon College. Learning experiences are designed from a variety of perspectives within a Christian worldview, and students are encouraged to view issues and challenges through unique lenses allowing for divergent thinking and creative expression. Experiential learning is an integral component to help discover their God-given leadership skills.  Knowing themselves and their ability to examine the heart and head issues that detract from exemplary service is thoroughly integrated into the curriculum. This is accompanied by the development of effective conflict resolution skills, communication approaches, team management and introductions to the expectations of an educational leader. Veteran mentors partner with students and serve as supporters, sounding boards, encouragers, admonishers and sharers of experiences. Additionally, experienced leaders from a myriad of professions share their journeys with the students. A biblical worldview permeates the leadership degree as students seek knowledge, clarity and guidance in their effort to fulfill the call of God on their lives.

Master of Arts in Leadership (M.A.), Christian Education Concentration-Designed for traditional Christian school/college educators

Designed by leaders in Christian school education, this program focuses on the development of emerging and active school leaders in PK-12 and college environments. The 30-credit hour program focuses on two summer intensives including two onsite courses each summer. During the school year, courses are offered on a virtual online format. Programs now exist in two regions of the United States: one is held on Gordon College’s campus at Wenham, MA, referred to as the Boston cohort, and the second is held in two Christian schools in the Atlanta area, referred to as the Atlanta cohort.

Students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Leadership (M.A.)-Christian Schooling program at the Andrew Jumper Theological Graduate Center at Mackenzie Presbyterian University in São Paulo, Brazil, may simultaneously enroll in Gordon’s M.A. in Leadership program and complete a concentration in Christian Education. In order to earn the M.A. in Leadership at Gordon, students must complete five of Gordon’s M.A. in Leadership courses (LEA 701, LEA 702, LEA 705, LEA 710 and LEA 720), Gordon’s EDU 705 (Principled Leadership-Ethics, Values and Moral Leadership), and a six-credit practicum. Additionally, Gordon will accept two courses, entitled Reformed Worldview & Education and Christian Faith & Educational Theories, from the degree program at the Andrew Jumper Theological Graduate Center to fulfill six credits towards graduation. Students will take courses on-stie in São Paulo, Brazil, and on the Gordon College campus in Wenham, MA, as well as virtual online courses. Students involved in the program are current and emerging leaders from Brazilian schools and churches.
