LEA 705 - Developing, Leading and Managing People

This course explores the opportunities and challenges associated with leading people. Exploring the values that make an effective leader and allows the leader to be effective will also be a part of this course. The course will explore what it means to be a leader of leaders.  As part of this course, work, students will distinguish between management and leadership. A robust analysis of the ways that leaders can identify, develop, and strengthen talent within their organizations are a part of this course of study. Students will also explore the retention and evaluation of personnel with an eye toward building an organizational culture that includes entrepreneurial structures and facilitates a culture of innovation, diversity, and excellence. In addition, a portion of the course will be devoted to personal leadership development, which will involve students taking the StrengthsFinder assessment developed by The Gallup Organization and considering how organizational leaders can draw upon similar diagnostic tools.
