Foundations of Business at Gordon College
The Department of Economics and Business offers four distinct majors in the business field: accounting, business management, finance, and marketing. Students majoring in business management may also elect to complete a concentration in entrepreneurship and small business, human resource management, or sport management; students may choose only one concentration.
Double majors within the Economics and Business Department are allowed, but triple majors are not allowed.
Students must continuously maintain a 2.0 GPA within the major.
All students majoring in a business field (accounting, business management, finance, or marketing) are required to take the following courses (22 credits total):
Finance Requirements
The finance major utilizes foundational and elective courses from both accounting and economics to develop the tools and understandings essential to competent financial theory and practice. This knowledge base is extended and specialized to the finance discipline through the study of international capital markets and financial institutions, financial planning and control, capital budgeting and development of capital resources. The two elective courses allow students to emphasize either corporate finance or financial markets/institutions.
Completing the finance major requires at most 66 credits in total (44 credits in addition to the 22 credits in Foundations of Business). Required courses in addition to the Foundations of Business are:
