Foundations of Business at Gordon College

The Department of Economics and Business offers four distinct majors in the business field: accounting, business management, finance, and marketing. Students majoring in business management may also elect to complete a concentration in entrepreneurship and small business, human resource management, or sport management; students may choose only one concentration.

Double majors within the Economics and Business Department are allowed, but triple majors are not allowed.

Students must continuously maintain a 2.0 GPA within the major.

All students majoring in a business field (accounting, business management, finance, or marketing) are required to take the following courses (22 credits total):

ECB 105 - Introduction to Business (2)
ECB 110 - Personal Financial Analysis (2)
ECB 115 - The Economy (4)
ECB 117 - Principles of Financial Accounting (4)
ECB 118 - Principles of Managerial Accounting (4)
ECB 205 - Vocation and Business Careers (2)
ECB 211 - Statistics in Business and Economics (4)
The ECB 211 requirement can alternatively be satisfied through completion of MAT 220 - Biostatistics ; or MAT 318 - Probability and MAT 319 - Statistics ; or PSY 256 - Research Methods I and PSY 257 - Research Methods II ; or AP Statistics by permission.

Accounting Requirements

The accounting major provides the opportunity to see the application of economic theory in the design of a system intended to give financial data users the ability to make informed economic decisions. The accounting major stresses the development of an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles. The educational background necessary to sit for the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) examination requires the completion of 150 credits. The student’s advisor should be consulted for more details.
