The professional writing concentration aims to supplement the English major by equipping students to become effective on-the-job communicators. Graduates will be able to write cogently and compellingly according to recognized professional standards.

Required

20 credits required. Up to 8 credit hours of the Professional Writing concentration may also be applied to the Writing and Rhetoric requirements in the English major.

With advisor approval, up to 4 credits of courses in areas such as media, persuasive, or business writing; advanced business report writing; advanced topics in writing; writing in the social sciences.

Note

Up to four credits may be taken online through an approved consortium arrangement; these credits must be approved by the advisor and the Registrar’s office.
Selected topics courses must have a clear focus on composition and rhetoric and requires advisor approval.
Internships must include a substantial writing component and require advisor approval.
At least 50% of the credits (10) must be completed with Gordon College coursework.
