Requirements

Students majoring in computer science must complete the following courses. Only courses with a grade of C- (C minus) or above can be used to fulfill a major requirement.

CPS 121 - Introduction to Programming (4)
CPS 122 - Object-Oriented Software Development (4)
CPS 221 - Software Systems (4)
CPS 222 - Data Structures and Algorithms (4)
CPS 391 - Junior Seminar I (2)
CPS 392 - Junior Seminar II (0)
CPS 403 - Computers and Society (4)
MAT 228 - Logic, Sets, and Structures (2)
MAT 229 - Proofs, Functions and Complexity (2)
One of the following:
CPS 311 - Computer Organization (4)
CPS 320 - Models of Computation (4)

Major electives

Students must also complete 12 credits of computer science electives chosen from 300-level courses; not more than 4 of these credits may be taken in courses cross-listed between computer science and another discipline.

Additional requirements

A second major or a minor in some other field is required. A minimum of 16 credits must be 200-level or higher in one department and not used to fulfill either core or other computer science requirements.

Educator Licensure - Computer Science

Students interested in teaching computer science must also complete MAT 121 - Calculus I or MAT 111 - Introduction to Applied Calculus . They should also consult the education program chair for additional information.
