Musical Theatre Minor

The musical theatre minor consists of 20-23 credits and has three tracks, depending on the student’s major. An audition is required for any student who is not a current voice music major. Double majors in music (B.A. or B.M.) and theatre may not add this minor.

Track One

For students earning a B.M. or B.A. in Music

MUS 091 - Applied Music-Voice (Variable: 1-4) 4 credits total required
THT 115 - Theatre Practicum (1) To be taken when cast in a musical production
THT 234 - Introduction to Theatre (4)
THT 235 - Fundamentals of Acting (4)

Electives

A miniumum of three credits from the following:

THT 115 - Theatre Practicum (1) Cast or crew; may be taken up to three times for minor elective credit
THT 150 - Technical Production I (4)
THT 291 - International Seminar: Studies on British Stage (4)
THT 240 - Voice Study (4)
THT 310 - Theatre History I: Aeschylus to Zola (4)
THT 320 - Theatre History II: 20th-Century (4)
THT 375 - Professional Skills (2 or 4)

Track Two

For students earning a B.A. in Theatre Arts

Required Courses

MUS 091-2 Applied Music-Voice 2 credits for three semesters - 6 credits total
MUS 111 - Foundational Music Reading Skills (2)
THT 115 - Theatre Practicum (1) To be taken when cast in a musical production
Two semesters of vocal ensemble; the 1-credit section is required

Track Three

For students in majors other than music or theatre arts. Students in track three may not also complete a minor in music or theatre without permission from the music department chair.
