Kinesiology Concentrations

  For students who want to study the human body from a kinesiological perspective, specifically those interested in physical therapy, occupational therapy or athletic training.

  For students interested in strength training and conditioning, sport and fitness, as well as those interested in sport management from a scientific perspective.

Notes:

Students completing the Kinesiology major are not required to take the common core course NSM 202 The Scientific Enterprise .

In addition to completing the kinesiology major, students with specific post-baccalaureate aspirations may choose a minor from a number of options, including health science, human anatomy or neuroscience. Close consultation with academic advisors is recommended to ensure that specific graduate program prerequisites are met. Exceptional kinesiology majors may also consider the honors program. See program director for more information.

Kinesiology Academic Policy

At the completion of the fall semester during the sophomore year, students in the kinesiology major are required to:

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50;
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 in all basic and applied sciences; and
  • Complete each of the 100- and 200-level required courses in the kinesiology major with a grade of C or better. Failure to achieve a grade of C or better in any of these courses necessitates repeating the course. The Gordon College policy on repeating courses stated in this catalog must be followed.

A student failing to meet these academic standards will be given one semester and the summer term to attain these requirements.  Failure to meet these standards will result in dismissal from the major.
