Business Administration (B.A.)

Foundations

The Department of Economics and Business offers four distinct majors: accounting, business administration, economics and finance. Students majoring in business administration may also elect to complete a concentration in international business, management, marketing, or sport management.  Students may choose only one concentration. Additionally, the department jointly sponsors with the Political Science Department the international affairs major (see Interdisciplinary/Off-Campus Programs ).

All students majoring in accounting, business administration, economics or finance are required to take the following courses:

• ECB 105 - Introduction to Business 2 credits
• ECB 115 - The Economy 4 credits
• ECB 211 - Statistics in Business and Economics 4 credits
• ECB 311 - Intermediate Microeconomics 4 credits or ECB 324 - Intermediate Macroeconomics   4 credits 

Requirements for the major

The business administration major builds on a foundation of economic theory and is designed to stress the fundamentals of management, marketing, accounting, finance and quantitative methods. The graduate with this major should be well prepared for a professional career in business or for further training in business or other areas.

Completing the business administration major requires at most 52 credits in total. Required courses in addition to the Foundations are:

• ECB 117 - Principles of Accounting I 4 credits
• ECB 118 - Principles of Accounting II 4 credits
• ECB 245 - Principles of Management 4 credits
• ECB 247 - Financial Management 4 credits
• ECB 277 - Principles of Marketing 4 credits
• ECB 492 - Senior Seminar: Management, Strategy and Ethics 4 credits

Business Administration Concentrations

Students majoring in business administration may also elect to complete one concentration from those listed below; more than one concentration in the major is not allowed. Upper level ECB courses will count towards the electives requirement in the major, unless indicated otherwise.
