Requirements
The Sociology program is anchored by two required course sequences-one in statistics and research methods, the other in social theory-that provide a solid grounding in the traditions and practices of the discipline. These are supplemented by a broad array of elective course offerings. Students majoring in sociology are required to take a minimum of 40 credits in sociology, including: Note:
The department strongly encourages students to choose additional electives from related disciplines such as history, philosophy, political studies and psychology. Concentration in Gender Studies
The department encourages majors with special interest in how conceptions of gender shape perceptions, interactions and social institutions, to pursue an interdisciplinary minor or concentration in gender studies.
