ENG 686 - Poetics(3) Explores theories of poetics, starting with Greeks and Romans, and continuing through medieval period, Renaissance, and eventually to contemporary developments in English and other theories of poetics. Students consider historical and contemporary analysis of art of poetry, including both close examination of technical features of the art, and a study of application of such concepts as intertextuality (allusion, reference between poems and other art forms) and what Harold Bloom has called The Anxiety of Influence.
