Requirements

Students seeking an elementary education (grade 1-6) licensure are required to maintain a 2.70 cumulative GPA and earn a C or better in education classes. Students choose core humanities, social science and natural science options that meet licensure requirements as defined by the Department of Education. Students must apply for acceptance into the program during their sophomore year and must meet licensure requirements for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the time of program completion. In addition to the requirements for an initial teaching license, all students must complete the ESL licensure program or earn SEI endorsement. See the departmental advisor for further information.

Students may choose to complete the major without licensure. Those interested in this option, which may include up to 12 credits of internship, should discuss their options with their education advisor.

The College reserves the right to alter program requirements as necessary to remain in compliance with Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education licensure standards.

The following courses are required for an elementary education major. EDU 260 will fulfill the core  NSM 202 - The Scientific Enterprise requirement.
