Communication Arts (B.A.)

Communication Arts majors and minors must complete each of the required courses in the major or minor with a grade of C or better. Failure to achieve a grade of C or better in any required course necessitates repeating the course until the minimum requirements are met.

Requirements


Foundations


(12 credits)   These courses introduce foundational concepts and competencies for understanding, evaluating and creating visual stories.  All are required.

Development Requirements


To develop concepts and competencies more specific to particular media forms and cultural contexts, students select a blend of introductory, intermediate and advanced courses suited to their vocation. NOTE: The department offers various “pathways” for movement through the curriculum, based on a student’s vocational interest and career goals. Please see your departmental advisor.

Study Abroad Programs

Up to 12 credits from the following study abroad programs may be applied to the major in the Intermediate and Advanced category. Internship is required.

Los Angeles Film Studies - Courses approved for major credit with permission of advisor.

Capstone Courses (6-8 credits)


Concentrations


Students may choose one of the following optional concentrations

  - For students interested in film, journalism, social media content creation, and web and video game development

  - For students interested in strategic communications positions or graduate studies
