Music Minor

Students wishing to earn a music minor must audition for the Department of Music faculty on their major instrument. In order to complete the music minor, students are required to earn a minimum of 20 credits of music courses and complete all requirements listed below.

Required Courses

Required Courses (8 - 12 credits)

Applied music: 2 credits for two semesters, preferably consecutive, on the same instrument (4 credits)
MUS 211 - Music Theory I Credits: 3
MUL 211 - Aural Skills I Credits: 1
Music Ensembles -  four semesters from the following:
MUS 250 - College Choir: 0 or 1 variable credit
MUS 251 - Symphonic Band: 0 or 1 variable credit
MUS 252 - Men’s Choir: 0 or 1 variable credit
MUS 253 - Gordon Symphony Orchestra: 0 or 1 variable credit
MUS 254 - Women’s Choir: 0 or 1 variable credit
MUS 258 - Wind Ensemble: 0 or 1 variable credit

Music minors may petition the chair of the department to take other music classes for which they do not have the sufficient prerequisites.
