EDU 543 - Science of Effective Literacy Instruction3 credits Based on the findings of scientifically-based reading research. Consideration of teaching theories, methods, strategies and materials for teaching literacy are viewed in light of current reading research. Most effective instructional methods for each of the five components of reading as identified by the National Reading Panel (2000) will be examined in depth through study of the reading process and through instructional practice. Students will advance their understanding by critical reading of current research and application of findings to instructional practice.
