USP 330 - Spiritual Disciplines in Community

Explores practice of spiritual disciplines within different Christian community contexts. Readings and discussions cover traditional spiritual disciplines (e.g., solitude, fasting, celebration) as well as issues related to Christian community (e.g., temporary community, intentional community). Participants will engage in selected disciplines within contexts of various Christian communities of which they will be a part during the semester (e.g., the USIP student community, host families, the UCU community). Factors related to intentional communities, temporary community and naturally occurring communities will be considered. Concludes with intentional temporary community experience of a weeklong backpacking trip. Note: This elective requires an additional week in Uganda. Fees: Additional fees apply.
